What Happens at a
Neurofeedback Session

All About You
We start off with a relaxing conversation about your health, health history and the areas you wish to work on. We will help you identify specific goals and explain a bit more about neurofeedback as it directly relates to you and your needs.

Show & Tell
Next you'll get an explanation and description of the sensors and the way the computer converts your brainwave information into visual and auditory feedback. We'll talk about what we want to achieve in this particular session.

Putting on the Sensors
We will apply sensors to your scalp - no need to worry, it just feels like a dime sitting on your head.  These sensors will measure frequencies and amplitudes produced by your brain.

Watching Your Brain in Action
The sensors are connected to a computer that provides instant feedback, which we decipher and explain to you. This way you can actually experience how your brain reacts during different situations, and identify your positive, or successful brainwaves. We will teach you exercises to help you learn to change your brain patterns, which in turn changes your behavior or helps your body overcome an illness or disorder.

Practicing
Like all new skills, you will need to practice. We can watch your success by noting changes in the signals on the computer. Gradually, you'll learn to associate successful thoughts and actions with the desired change in your involuntary responses. Once learned, the brain usually continues to behave in a way that processes information in the new, more efficient and successful manner.
How Many Sessions?
Neurofeedback is a learning process and therefore results are seen gradually. Individual results vary, but typically 20-40 sessions are required for mild attention, learning, and behavior problems. In situations such as severe injury or lifelong illnesses, the training may need to be extended. Generally, we like to meet with you three times a week for 45 minute sessions. The more frequently a person trains, the more dramatic the results.
